This boat is built by CMPANG who was an airplane enigineer lived in HongKong now.

Hi,

I've been in the R/C hobby for a long time mainly doing electric planes for the past years. Submarine is always a mystery for me. Browsing through the web leads me to the impression that sub building is complicated on one side that there is only a few full package kit in the market and the other is DIY is going to be a tedious process. Getting all the required stuff alone is not going to be easy especially for a newbie like me.

One thread in the taiwan forum www.rctw.net/thread-43802-1-9.html attracted me as the Red Shark kit seems to be a full package kit and not difficult to accomplish. As my interest lies on the static dive, I'd just past it on without any follow up. There are some disscussion on the Red Shark on this fourm.

The other day while surfing the web I discovered there seems to be an upgraded version with static dive and comes with a new name "Dragon Shark". Browsing through the pictures and videos on manufacturer's site reveals it to be a full package kit just what I've been looking for. So I go for it as the price is right.

Get it after 3 days placing the order. Here is the spec from the manufacturer:

Scale: 1/72
Size/Weight: 866x110mm/5000g(RTR)
Box size/Weight: 700x190x160mm/3500g(Kit)
Kit intro:
This model is a HIGH QUALITY R/C submarine for Junior.External design from lastest stealth CHINA nuclear attack submarine.

This submarine kit include hull-WTC(water tight cylinder),so you needn't buy an extra WTC.

All parts made by ABS plastic/nylon,with precise detail but easy to assemble.

All metal parts such as running set made by is CNC precision sizing.

Kit include complete static diving ballast system, rubber waterbag, high pressure reverse pump, solenoid, tube etc.

Kit include all waterproof parts,o-ring,u-ring etc.

As a newbie the way I go along with the building is based on plain mechanical experience and common sense. The purpose of this building log is to show the way I do it and hope some sub experts would jump in and pointing out any mistakes and better ways to complete the kit.

Opening the box found everything arrived in good shape except a cracked prop. Contacted the manufacturer and a replacment is on the way.

Some dry fit pictures :

delighted to know that CA works great on the ABS plastic, so a fixed prop before the replacement arrives:

One good thing about dry fitting before the actual assemby is to detect any error that might be difficult to fix after fully assembled. Note there is a 4mm gap between the rear end cap and the wtc tube.
Trimming the insertion lip in the mechanical deck by the same amount closes the gap.

do ask whatever you like to know. I've never assemble a sub before and so please point out any error...
so much for the dry fit and now comes to the actual assemby.
The first step is to install the shaft water seal bushing. Opp... I was dump enough to have the water seal (the blue one) pointing to the wrong way and so can never make it. Turn it around and get it done.
The motor coupling is straight foreward. Next is to fix the motor housing to the end cap.

OK some initial impression after the dry fit.

The kit appeares to be well made and the materials used are as good as you can get for the price. The water pump and valve

seems to come from the industrial product line and nothing looks to be toy grade.

I am sure the Dragon Shark is a simplified version of the product line. As you can see, they use the wtc shell as the hull of

the sub and so saves lots of costing on the hull details.

Nevertheless, the wtc seems to follow the basic structure that comes with the company's line of high grade kit. Browsing on

their web reveals the same/similiar end-caps, same diameter wtc tube, pump, valves etc are being used over the product line.

So by looking at the Dragon Shark, you have a basic idea about how the other kits look/work like.

As such, I would say Dragon Shark is more of a working model rather than a detailed scale model. But for sure it looks ok to

me as it is not too far off from a modern nulcuar sub. For one time the Thunder Tiger attracts me but I am still fond of a

warship type rather than a scientific sub.

Do chime in man! I don't want to work alone!!!

The reason for this are the names of the pictures, they have a lot of spaces inside

for example in front of and behind the word "mechanical":

That doesn´t work.
