I found the 30A ESC from Hobbyking very poor. Two controllers blew up on the bench, just testing with little load on the motors. They refunded my account. Hope you have more luck with the 45A model.

I purchased the 60A esc, and so far performance has been excellent. Good ESC for the money, and allows sensored as well as sensorless motor. The cost difference between this controller and the cheaper ones is minimal.

Hello subculture,
I already bought the 45A controller (the 2nd link). It should arrive in the next days.
Probably the 60A version might have problems in partitial load operation (Teillastbetrieb)? 45A should be ok I think.

Why would that be an issue? Just FET's switching inductors, the less load, the easier they can do their job. Too small a controller would most certainly be an issue.

Thanks for that point of view. I had in mind, that a large gap between controller and motor could be a problem. Maybe that´s different for air-controller...
(I´m not so well versed in submarine-stuff, yet)
I think the 45A will be ok. :sailor:

All controllers have to switch more often at a patial load, cheaper controllers are less effective. At the flank of each switching these Transistors are only partially conductive, they act as resistors and produce heat.
At full load, there are less switching cycles.

Controllers of a higher quality have an "active override" (aktiver Freilauf), they are able to switch partial loads with a higher effectivity, therefore getting less warm.

I understand about Mosfet RDS on, and also how switching ramp up/down affects the heat in the transistors, but heat in the ESC will be a factor of the load placed upon it, the switching frequency and the efficiency of the transistors used.

The brushless controllers I am using are inexpensive models, but have been extremely reliable, and don't appear to get hot in use.
